Join STEMHaus Online Summer School 2023

Where? The STEMHaus Summer School is fully virtual

Subject Streams

  • Computer Science covers computer systems and networks, in broad terms. The Computer Science subject stream aims to prepare learners for studying Computer Science at GCSE and A Level

  • Engineering covers applications of Science and Math to solve problems. The Engineering subject stream aims to give learners a taste of Engineering whilst helping prepare them for studying Math and Physics at GCSE and A Level

  • Life Sciences covers everything that is living, from bacteria to plants to humans. The Life Sciences subject stream aims to prepare learners for studying Biology at GCSE and A Level, including topics such natural and forensic science

  • Physical Sciences covers the inorganic or ‘non-living’ world. The Physical Sciences subject stream aims to prepare learners for studying Chemistry and Physics at GCSE and A Level

  • Mathematics covers a variety of topics including but not limited to: algebra, geometry and calculus. The Mathematics subject stream aims to prepare learners for studying Math at GCSE and A Level

  • Wellbeing, Academic Study Skills & Careers: The new stream addition to STEMHaus 2023 will have a range of sessions and activities that cover wellbeing topics, academic study skills and careers connected to STEM industries

The Curriculum

STEMHaus 2023 has been co-designed by staff at Swansea University and a team of leads who are expert teachers in their subjects and come from many different countries such as Sri Lanka, USA, Colombia and the UK. Subject leads are supported by instructors, some of whom are Seren Alumni—Welsh students currently studying at top universities.

Together, they have designed a unique, engaging and diverse range of subject stream content within each subject stream.

  • Design and Optimisation of Electric Propulsion for Spacecraft

  • Artificial Intelligence

  • Decoding the ocean cleanup: Super Enzymes Can Eat Away Our Problems

  • Cybersecurity with Python

  • Pascal’s Triangle - How can one pattern have so many uses

  • Microbiology - is your gut controlling you?

  • Green concrete jungles: Civil Engineering and Urban Planning to tackle climate change

  • Making effective use of Chat GPT

  • Using Virtual Reality

  • STEM at Oxbridge

Guest Speaker Series ‘Achieving Net Zero’

Throughout the week of STEMHaus, specially selected guest speakers from industry and academia deliver a series of sessions around the theme of ‘achieving net-zero’ with thought-provoking presentations, conversations and opportunities to ask questions directly. For 2023 guest speakers include:
