STEMHaus 2023 Learner case study
“I applied for STEMHaus after hearing about it from my Seren group in school. As soon as I got home I applied because I knew that it was an amazing opportunity. I thought it would look great on my CV and would really help me get a taste of what a future in engineering would look like (the career I’ve been hoping for since Year 9). I was hoping that this Summer school would help me decide which area of engineering I feel would be the best for me. I was also hoping that I could see how engineering firms are trying to become more environmentally friendly and carbon neutral (something really helpful and relevant to society that I could take away).
The STEMHaus Summer School exceeded these expectations. I not only learnt lots about engineering, but also about many other STEM areas like mathematics and even forensic science! I never would have expected to find these as interesting as I did- but, I loved learning about them. The STEMHaus sessions were extremely informative about engineering; I have now discovered that I love the idea of studying aerospace engineering, and I have learnt all about how engineering firms are trying to achieve net zero.
Overall, to anyone thinking about taking part in the STEMHaus Summer School... you definitely should. You learn things that make you think; wow, what I’ve just learnt will be really beneficial in my future whether it’s benefiting your GCSEs, A-Levels or future career. All of the staff are absolutely lovely and just make the learning so much more fun, they made me feel comfortable and supported at all times. I’m so grateful for the opportunity that they gave me and I hope that many others get to experience great times and learn many new things with STEMHaus.”
